About
Photographer and Director Kevin Mackintosh was born in South Africa but divides his time between London , Paris and Cape Town.
Beginning his life as a photojournalist , he soon gravitated to fashion and still life imagery . “There was something about the controlled image that fascinated me.” theatre, film and art is a big part of his influence. The idea that a photograph could be controlled within a frame rather than a photojournalistic route where imagery is made up, pretty much in an instant, the crafting became the quintessence of the imagery. Set and production design contribute to this vision and have become a signature of his work.
These facets are evident , equally in his collaborations with the bolshoi, royal opera and ballet and the new york philharmonic and a collaboration with christies on their ‘ First ever ‘ World campaign - the art people .
Portrait work has included vivienne westwood ,idris elba , keira knightly , anthony gormley, william kentridge , riz ahmed , marianela nunez, edward watson, thiago soares , and included in the english national portrait gallery- permanent collection.
Kevins first solo show - the bolshoi was shown at 34 long and obert contemporary in south africa. This included working with the company in moscow to produce a book and imagery to celebrate their 300 year history. It was launched at the moscow state circus, and travelled extensively.
